    duplicolor wheel paint

My stock wheels are pitting and fading, and i dont have the money to buy a new set of wheels right now so for the time being i would like to just paint them solid black with this wheel paint.

What all needs to be done to prep the wheels and make this paint stick and last? Sand blast or what?

The wheels are mostly chrome with painted centers if it makes a difference.

hmmm being chrome is going to be the pain. I have painted chrome, it can be done just a PITA. Use a Scotchbrite pad and scuff them up real good, and clean them with a prep solvent to remove all oil and crap. Then a good etching primer, then paint. Now when I say scuff them up, I mean really scuff them. They should look like brushed aluminum.

Its gonna take everybit of one day. You need to scuff, clean, prime, sand, fix imperfections, prime, sand then paint. Then may have to wetsand after that, then buff.

    Will sand blasting remove chrome?

Why not just get them powdercoated? You can get them powdercoated for $200 and that includes the prep work. The amount of time involved in prep work alone is worth 200 bucks to me.

If i could get them done for 200 with all the prep work and everything i would prob do it, but i dont want my car down for more than a day, two tops.
I can get them sand blasted for 40 then supplies would only cost me around 80-100 but be a pita.

I used the duplicolor wheel paint on my rims They look great and the paint has held up surprisingly well. BUT, with chrome you are going to have to blast them.

You should find some junk rims to set your car on while they're working on it. Then you will have time to fix up your good wheels.
