Wheelie bars stop the backend of the car from squating, transfering weight to the back, allowing the front wheels to be planted more firmly. Which in turn, lowers the 60ft times. weight transfer is sort of a bad thing in a fwd.

I thought that might be a answer for me . But i was not sure thank you for you very educated answer, You did a 7.3 104 too cool I would like to see that . My little rod does a 5.70 but i have 8 cyl and proberly 1/2 the weight you have Thanks engine -man alias Dale

Yeah, just tryin to get use to the whole fwd with slick. The car has been 6.9's @109mph, by the previous owner/builder. It went 10.5 @139mph in the 1/4. That's where the car shines it's best. The last 660' it really picks up and goes..

I can only imagine what 5.70's are like. that's crazy.. I'd just like to see my car in the 6's. 6.5-6.7 range. It won't be anytime soon, but that's my overall goal for the car. mid-high 6's @115-120mph in the 1/8th and Low 10's @14?mph in the 1/4

I think the wheelie bars are more of a fad than anything else. They can just use spring eliminators in the rear, or put in some solid struts to eliminate the squat. That and I hear guys talk about how was first to use them and how cool it looks. It's yet another ricer gag.

A 9 second (1/4 mile) sr20 powered b13 classic used em. I would think they had a purpose. The guy didn't have a big sponsered car either.

I don't doubt they had a purpose, but I think they could have just made some bars in the rear suspension to keep it from squatting rather than to fab up wheelie bars to hang off the back.

Eliminating squat is one thing, putting weight on the front wheels is another. If the wheelie bars are preloaded they put added weight on the front by taking weight from the rear.

I disagree. Think of it like a breaker bar, the further you can get away from the pivot point, the more torque you have. The same goes for the wheelie bars. They are further from the front tires (pivot point) than the rear tires would be, therefore creating a larger counter-acting moment on the pivot point. Also the rear tires would have some spring to them, where the solid wheels on the wheelie bars do not. :2cents:

Didn't they use pneumatic/hydraulic wheelie bars at one point to pre-load the front tires? I think they banned them after a while
