Picked up an elite yesterday, and it only took about 8 different stores to find one. It looks amazing with the HDMI set on 1080P. I've some some improvement in pixelation and drag on the couple of games I played last night. Plus the 120gb hard drive will be great for dl movies and tv shows. System even comes with HDMI cable, and a halfway decent one at that. Also includes component, audio dongle for l/r stereo and optical, ethernet cable, and a little bit different power cable. New system has 2 massive fans in the back, so no need for the loud aux fans.

upscaled is still better than lower res. plus 1080p hddvd's are becoming more readily avail, and there will be 1080p games down the road

Hardly. The GPU / CPU are exactly the same as 360's that have come before it. It's still the same old overheating pile it was before the elite. I hope you bought the extended warranty.

the cooling system IS better designed...looking at both now. fans are right at the adge of the plastic outer case - old systems have metal case inside plastic case, putting a larger barrier between the cooling fans and the outside of the case.......and I've never had a problem with overheat to the point of causing damage even in 12+ hr periods.

Improved cooling for a poorly designed box is no excuse... I REFUSE to buy a new box until the new chipset is out.

There is little to no difference in cooling between the two. Linky. (http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/news/inside_the_xbox_360_elite.htm)
Until they get the revised chips out, it will remain that way.

My Halo 3 conundrum starts now. I have 4 months to solve it.
been playing for almost a week, quite fun :)
i'd like to have an elite, but i'm very happy with VGA @ 1080p
and there are a couple NATIVE 1080p games, and i agree, upscalled 1080 games look better than 720 on a 720 screen (but it's not night and day)

From what I've seen in the little I've been able to play, it's very close to Halo2. lots of new weapons (a small tutorial woulda been nice) and you can only hold 2 of each type grenade, although you can carry 4 types. Some levels have no physical boundaries, but AI guns kill you if you go too far.
My fav new feature is the veto. If half of the people in a match veto the gametype and map it changes to a different one.
