I just got the Linksys wireless g router. The wireless g game adapter is more than the freaking router. Is there a better (cheaper) way to hook up my modded xbox?

Only if you want to run cable.

If you buy the official Xbox adapter it is more expensive, but you can buy a "regular" one for less, probably about $50. Linky (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124126)

You might also be able to buy a cheapo used wireless adapter and set it up as a bridge. I know the Linksys stuff has a ton of config options, and the OS on those are a flavor of Linux, so you can re-flash them easily with new firmware and open up alot of config options the default firmware may not have.

+1 on the link BenSsssssssss posted, that's the best way to do it. I've used those before in factories where there is no way to pull cable, and they work great.

what do you want to do online? DL games or get on Live? if you have a live account and the modded box hits their server, it will ban yor account =/

No, I don't play online games. I play music and videos.

if you want to keep it wireless, get a DD-WRT compatible Buffalo wireless router, you can run WDS and it's a much better solution than the MS wireless adapter, and will run around 40 bucks.

supported routers are listed here
