My buddy just got one and he has comcast basic internet.
His speeds were:
Download: 16086
Upload: 1522
These speeds were repeatable and same on the other speed test sites.

Dayum! Should I take my router back, spend $20 more bux and get the speed boost?

Regular 802.11g routers are FASTER than your internet connection. The speedboost routers wont make your internet faster. They just make your connection to the wireless router faster. I.E. transferring files from one pc to another in your house.

No.. it's only faster if you are transferring files between computers on your own network.

If you are farther out though, it would be faster than a non-speedboost router because of the overall increase in speed. In otherwords, if you get so far away from your router that your internet connection becomes faster than what the router is transferring, the speedboost router will be faster at that given point than a non-speedboost router.

why is this guy getting monster numbers then? I know his junk was slow before, but never ran a speedtest. Is the router caching or compressing and making it test better than the connection really is?

If a router is defective it can limit transfer speed.

Comcast in Murfreesboro has been doing 16mbps and 1.2mbps speedtest for various people on various brands of modems.

Just a router. I'm positive that the router has nothing to do with it, he just has a uber cable connection. Bastard!

I'd love to get the 100 mbps my non-speedboost router gets while on the internet. :)

You also have to have a computer that's compatible with the speedboost feature too.

not really...speedboost is a thing with ISP side and docsis2. comcast has cacheing servers that hold lots of data and can blast it to you faster since its cached localy here on their network. and they can set your modem to allow that speed

but older routers, espcialy older linksys routers are bound to 4mb connections. they put only 10mb on the wan side and the chip in there can only handle switching to 4mb. the true sign of this is if you use speedtest.net and keep getting around 4000kbps then you are hitting the top of your router. take router out plug straight into cable modem reboot modem and pc and test again and you will be bouncing off the needle.

that was why i went to a linux based pc router for my router. you can go buy a newer router, i highly recomend buffalo routers they are a lot more powerfull than anything out there on the consumer side. or build your own and turn your wireless router into just a wireless access point.

i usualy get 11000 to 15000 most nights. but right now at 6pm ill take those speeds

Bowlcut, I think he was talking about Linksys Routers with "speedboost" technology. Not comcasts speedboost..
