My buddy and I installed these on my mustang yesterday. I must say this was the easiest install on the car so far. We had them popped in and driving on the road in less than an hour. Does anyone else have these on their car or experience with them? Setting 1 fells like I have the front end of a caddy and setting 5 feels about as stiff as the stockers. I cant wait for TNSpeed day!

I have the Illumina's on my 89 but they are not the "drag" style, but I also have the 5-way shocks in the rear also. I may end up switching to the drags for the front but the car handles awesome.

i will end up getting the shocks for the rear. i wonder if that will help with the harshness of those spherical bushings back there?

I have the Tokico adjustable struts all the way around , Moody and I put them in with in an hour, bolted right up , and I feel I have the best streetable setup for my car than I ever have... I am completely happy with their products.

Where did you order them from? I was looking into getting them from summit the same time I order the motor mounts and just throwing them in the car while I am installing the headers on it, but they don't sell tokico struts.

i ordered them from here but it took 2 weeks to get them...they were out of stock and had to get more from Tokico. Their prices were good and free shipping plus I had a few weeks before I was planning to install them so it worked out.

thanks I am gonna check them out. I was looking at just saving money for a few more weeks and going with the MM steet/strip suspension package but its like 1600 bucks so I think just new shocks and struts will work for right now.

I have the Tokico Illumina drag struts and rear shocks. They are still working flawless with a little over 20k miles on them. I put them on right after I bought the car form the original owner in 2003.
Different rear shocks is not going to help with the noise of those solid bushings, Keith. If you want that noise to go away you will have to go back to urethane bushings or a better quality arm with Teflon lined spherical ends.

it's all good then. i can deal with the noise. the only time they are loud is when i'm riding over ruff roads, speed bumps, or pulling in my driveway.
i sure am diggin these struts so far. i drove the car again last night...you just cant beat those adjustable settings...it's crazy! :yippee:

so are there different settings like a notch cut out for each height, or do you twist the sleeve like you would on a regular coilover set-up?

Neither. There is a dial at the top of the piston's rod that you turn to adjust the rebound rate.

yep he's not talking about adjusting height. like tungsten said its how stiff or soft you want the ride of the strut/shock itself.
Out of curiosity when launching at the track on the RWD cars you want a softer rear strut setting for weight transfer to the rear wheels?

You want the rears stiffer than the fronts. There are a lot of factors involved in determining how stiff you want the rear to be. Tire type, how inflated the tires are, etc.

yep
You want the fronts loose so it will transfer and the rear fairly stiff so it will plant. 50/50 seems to work best in most applications. I tried mine on a real stiff setting in the rear and it would unload the tires once I was rolling. But that was on the Nitto's.

I think a lot of the drag radial guys are running the rear Tokicos on 3 or 4 and the front on 1.

i just saw this thread, i was in New York all last week. i've only been at the track once with these but the adjustability is sweet. i ran mine on 1 without spray and it felt great. with the spray, i settled in on 3 that day (TNSD) after trying all of the setting. setting 1 with spray made the front of the car feel too "floaty" on the big end of the track for my liking. i did make my fastest pass on setting 1 with and without spray.

Keep the fronts on 1 for the best ETs. I think the driver is a little "floaty" ....:D
