OK, so here are the specs:

Asus P4S8X-MX mb
ATI 256MB PCI Raedon 9250 Video
2 Segate SATA 250GB drives
2 Western Digital 250GB IDE drives
1 Samsung DVD RW drive
P4 (478 socket) 2.4 GHz 533 FSB
2 x 1 GB DDR400 Memory (Value Select) *this comes into play later

OK, so I have had this system up and running for months and it's been perfectly stable. The memory I have isn't on the listed "approved" list from the MB maker, but as I said it's been working fine for over 5 months. So today, I moved all of the above componets to a new case. I used the same power supply, same drives, memory modules, cpu fan etc... The only thing I did new was the new case and put an extra network card in it. Now the damn thing crashes all the time, after it comes up. The funny thing is that when I boot it up, it stays at the BIOS screen for like 2 minutes, then goes to the boot loader and takes FOREVER to come up. It's almost like it's running half time. However, once it's booted up it's noticably slower.

I've tried resetting all the of the BIOS settings to default, and resetting them to what I originally had. Nothing, same behavior. I've also tried removing the new network card.

Any ideas?

It's at the latest. I thought about doing it again though. It's Ami-bios.

Unplug all of the hard drives except the one that the OS is installed on, remove any add in cards that are not necessary to run the pc, unplug the cd rom drive.

Boot it up, does it run better? If so Turn it off, add one thing back in at a time until it starts running like poop.

If none of that works, nuke it from orbit, its the only way to be sure.

Found it....

I must've knocked the jumper off the CD ROM drive when putting it in, put it back on and it worked.

lol cd rom jumper...

other suggestion was going to be remove it from case and see if it stablizes. you might have had it grounded weirdly

I think that it's still really strange behavior for that scenario though... Oh well.
