So I got a new nic and I'm up. To complicate things, I decided to also replace my modem. Well, that didn't go so well. Do I have to register the new modem's (Motorola Surfboard) mac address somwhere? I also have a netgear wireless router if that means anything. Thanks doods

Call Comcast and tell them you bought a new modem and that you need to get it setup. They'll ask about a hundred times if it's a modem rented from them. After being transferred around a few times you'll give the MAC address and serial number to them. Then they'll reset your new modem and it should come up and work. If it doesn't then power it off and back on.
When you change your modem you have to call comcrap and tell them the new MAC so they can associate it with your account.

that sucks. this modem better be faster, because if it's not I'm taking it back and then guess what...I'll have to re-register another mac address:(
When I did ipconfig on the new modem, the ip was good, but it said comcast atlanta instead of hhsd1.tn.comcast for dns

Last time I connected a new modem it got an IP address and I had awesome speed but just for "internal" use. You can go to comcast.com but everything else should be locked down until you get it registered.

Yup have to reprovision it on the network. One thing about speed is the router. If you dont get more than say 4mb on speedtest.net try removing the router and plugging straight into the modem. warning here, have a firewall turned on as most computers will be infected with something within 15 seconds of connecting to the internet. but many routers seem to be limited at 4mb because of the chips they used
