I've seen articles from Sony saying price cuts aren't coming but then I've seen others saying there are cuts coming. First off, Circuit City is apparently running a special starting 7/12 I think and it'll be $500 for the 60GB version and Target may already be selling them at that price.

Come on guys, I need another $100 off that price.

Yesterday on Headline News there was a short story about PS3 price, saying they were not going to drop the price. We'll see.

I hope they drop the price. If I were Sony- I wouldn't be announcing that I was going to drop the price unless I was going to drop it in the next few days. If would cause a complete freeze in sales until the price dropped.

Compared to the competition, sales are probably pretty rough as it is. Regardless, I won't be buying one until I win a large sum of money or it comes down to $400.

I don't understand why people bish about the price. If you want a 360 optioned like a PS3 is, you'll pay more than a PS3! WiFi and Blu Ray are built in.And that's just it, I don't want a PS3 optioned like a 360 w/HD-DVD and obviously not enough other people do; Sony is just pushing the Blu-ray part in an effort to win the current format battle and I think it's hurting them. If they would've passed on the Blu-ray part and could have sold the PS3 with a DVD drive for $400 like a 360 without an HD-DVD drive, Sony would probably be kicking ass and taking names right about now.

I think Blu-ray is a nice little convenience in the PS3 but I don't watch enough movies to consider it worth the cost.

Do you have an HD-DVD player with your 360 or know of a significant number of people that have purchased the add-on for their 360?

I think bluray is going to win the format battle, blockbuster decided thats what they were going to carry. Video rental is what decided the vhs/beta battle.

If they were the same price, the 360 would still be donkey punching the PS3. The PS3 needs some strong games to come out. The on-line segment sucks, which should be no surprise since you do not have to pay the $5/mo like MS charges. I have several friends who have both systems and the 360 gets more PT.

Blockbuster only stopped puttin HDDVD in it's new stores as a trial. Any stores that already carried HDDVD will still rent them.
Sales on discs are still too close to call......Blu-ray wins on some titles and HDDVD wins on some titles.
With Sony's new player at a low price and new free disc mail-in, Toshiba will most likely drop even lower in coming months and impliment even better promos than the 5 free HDDVD mail in that's running right now.

Stand alone Blu-ray sales are behind HDDVD, so the player numbers are skewed a bit. The battle will continue to rage on......

I will probably jump on the ps3 bandwagon when the new GTA comes out

There are Blu Ray games, so it couldn't function without the player and still be the same. And chances are the real data, what I consider the data that isn't movies, hardly consumes 9GBs. I've dealt a lot with copied games over the years so I know this stuff. In my opinion, game makers need to cut back on pre-rendered cut scenes (the movies) anyway because they SUCK. The PS3 and 360 have plenty of power for rendering real-time cut scenes and I think it's lame when they make a pre-rendered movie instead of actually using the console to do something cool. It's the equivalent of buying a sports car and driving it like it's a Prius; all that horsepower and they're driving it like a grandma.

That's the ticket right there. The 360 has all the better games, but its mechanically a piece of crap with all the breakdowns. I think what Sony needs to get more people to buy are good proprietary titles. Gran Turismo will help, but if they could've pulled proprietary on Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy, they would've been in a lot better shape. They supposedly did have GTA in the bag (and some others) but lost it most likely because developers scared of poor sales. There was an article where I think it was an EA person being interviewed and said that it might costs X millions of dollars to produce a game and if there aren't enough consoles out there then they can't recover the development costs and buy a couple of Porsches for each programmer to wipe their butts with.

I'm giving Sony time, though. I feel confident that the PS3 will be really attractive in the future but I think they initially F'd UP!

Send price cuts.

competition ownz all...

i would rather pay 250 for a Wii, another 300 for Xbox 360, and buy games...

look at that, i just bought 2 game consoles + games for the price of just a PS3 (NO GAMES)... and they say that consumers are stupid...
