So the Z was under the weather for the last autocross, so I took the new camera for a spin instead. Good high-motion shots under these conditions are very tough, but I think these came out pretty nice.

Yummy Lotus, don't know this guy:

Jerry's car turns so fast, I couldn't keep the nose in focus with the rest of the car:

Rrrrrmmmmmmmm.... pppssshhhhh:

There a few more shots, but have not resized them so they wouldn't fit in my gallery. PM me with an email address and I'll send anyone who wants one a picture. These are uncropped 10Mpixel jpegs and you can get a huge print made at costco for very little cash. On the ones that the car is composed funny, you can crop these and still have plenty of res for a decent sized print. I don't care about photo rights or any of that other BS, these photos are free in every sense of the word.

Other shots have from that day:

Great shots.

When is the next one? I really need to work on my panning shots some more.

Also what camera are you using?

Thanks,

Verne

Heh, yeah I convinced the wifey that an SLR was the best way to get lasting memories of the kids :) I used our film SLR for a long time while they were little but getting the film developed and into the computer was either 1.) a hassle to do it right or 2.) easy but not very good quality.

Also what camera are you using?

The camera is a Pentax K10D with Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/2.8-4 manual focus lens. I bought this camera because it has features built in to it that let you use the old Pentax SMC and Takumar lenses. A few of the shots were with the kit lens, too. The EXIF data in the pictures show the camera settings if anyone is interested.

All the shots were handheld, which at full tele (315mm effective) it makes it hard to get a good shot. You can tell from the pic numbering that many many shots were not up to scratch. Out of ~350 pictures, only about 40 were good enough to show in public :)

Cool. I picked up a 30D after using a friends 20d on and off the past year.

What time is the auto-x tomorrow? I guessing out at NSS. I might try to make it out there and get some shots.

First car out is usually around 10:30 and we'll run until 3:00-ish depending the number of cars. I drooled all over the 30D while I was shopping. My film camera is an Elan and I learned on an AE-1. Canon makes great cameras, but I had to absolutely keep it under a grand for the sake of my marriage :) The pentax is a *very* potent camera for the price, and I found that Viv S1 lens (which is very good) at a pawn shop for 30 bucks!

A friend whose kid is on my son's soccer team let me shoot his 1Ds mkII one day with a 300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens. That package was a work of art and cost more than my car

I'll try to make it out tomorrow (I still can't drive the Z yet) and maybe we can compare notes. I'm still very new to panning shots, on film this kind of practice would cost lots of time and money :stare2:

I haven't done any major photography in 8 years. With a Pentex K1000 from the late 70's. The same camera I learned to shoot on. In some ways I miss film. What a difference a DSLR can make though.

I might be out that way tomorrow, not for sure yet.

Cowden with a wardrobe malfunction

ohhh I don't even want to know. Well unless its the bright orange shirt I'm forced to wear or me walking around with one tennis shoe and one race shoe b/c I was called to the bus.

Here's another one I got...

Thanks, it's pretty hard to get good motion blur like this because you have to slow the camera shutter down and pan with the car as it goes by. At this corner the cars were going pretty slow so I had to slow the camera down even further to get the motion blur, which meant lots of pics got thrown away, but every once in a while even a blind squirrel finds an acorn :)

Sure, show up and take pics the day I'm not running, then don't show up the day I am.
I see how you are.

I'm a pansy creampuff, I admit it  The heat kills me in the summer, not to mention the Z has a coolant leak, and already gets hot between runs. I'd like to come out and take more pictures in August since the car will not be running in that kind of heat.

Whatever happened to running the bimmer in DS? I saw you asking in the trscca forums. It wasn't 38 and raining, so my stock all season tires didn't help me.
