So, Bender was kind enough to give me a HP LaserJet 4 printer. It even has a JetDirect card in it.

However, I need to reconfigure the JetDirect card and don't remember how. As I recall, since it's been like 10 years, these required some software from HP to manage them. This is a really old one, does anyone remember how to reconfigure these things or what that software is called? I tried looking on HP's site to no avail, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

This is what the card looks like... Just like this....

Get the IP address from it and then while it's connected to your network telnet into it.

Once you telnet in type: / <enter> to list the setup. Once you make changes type QUIT <enter> to save them or EXIT <enter> to quit without saving.

You'll have to figure out how to obtain the IP yourself. For the stand alone boxes you just held a button and it sent that info to the printer.

HP Web Jetadmin is the utility. We have 3 or 4 of those printers here, and they have a build date on '94. They just don't quit working.

Web JetAdmin blows. JetAdmin was much better.

Well, as luck has it I would post for help and then promptly figure it out. I just hooked up to it with my laptop via a crossover cable, and then used a sniffer to see what address it has from it's ARP requests upon loading up. Then used TELNET to get in and change it's IP. :)

Or you could just surf through the configuration menu and change them from there. That's how I did it
