Wangan Midnight is actually an Intial-D type show in Japan. Also like Intial-D in Japan they have the same Arcade game set up.

Yes, Wangan Midnight was a comic, and it's been recently made into a show. I watched two episodes of it, and it kind of sucks, though. There have been a bunch of games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutokou_Battle_series) based on (or inspired by) this series released here. We'll probably get a version of this game, too.

Yeah mang, that's Wangan Midnight. What's crappy about that PS3 video is that it hardly looks any better than the PS2 version. Isn't the PS3 region free anyway? You could probably buy the game off the net and play it. The only issue that you might have is that you take a challenge and they give you the instructions for how to successfully complete the challenge but the instructions will be in Japanese. Sometimes there will be obvious stuff in the text like "...300km/h..." which usually means that you need to win the race and be going 300km/h by the time you cross the finish line. Sometimes you find out the hard way, for example I think I had a race where I was only supposed to tail the guy and wondered why I was losing when I was out in front, heh.

I found that you actually had to drift to win in the game; it would slow you down if you didn't drift around the corners and the game was a bit like a simulation so it felt like you were drifting at 20MPH.

What I really like about Tokyo Highway Battle is the awesome 90's guitar rock in it. :up: Either they're using good synthesizers or they're playing their guitars like robots.

Anyway, we only ever got Wangan Midnight in the arcade in the US; they had one in the Stones River Mall arcade. Since it never came to PS2 I wouldn't count on a US release of any newer games.

You didn't have to drift to win on Tokyo Highway Battle. I managed to beat that game without drifting :nerd: . You forgot the best part of that game: The Scooby-Doo sound effect when the cars take off. :lol:

I even have Highway 2000 for the Saturn...It's a horrible game, though.

I guess we never got any of the actual Wangan Midnight games here, just the Shutokou Battle games. Oh well, maybe they'll change their minds, since it's taking forever for GT:HD. It would be nice to see some good racing games for the PS3.

AFAIK you can import japanese titles to the PS3 no problems. Since they are NTSC and the games are region free.

Other than the language barrier should be no probs.

You forgot the best part of that game: The Scooby-Doo sound effect when the cars take off. :lol:That's one thing that killed me. You were doing a 10 minute burnout in a 240SX hatchback. I've still got the game, I might play it for a laugh and of course to rock out to the music.

The intro video was awesome on Tokyo Highway Battle. I am still playing tokyo xtreme racer 3. Almost 100% done:eek:, but you have to cheat to actually beat one of the wanders:(. I have already finished THB for ps, TXR, TXR2 for dreamcast, and TXR0 for ps2. They always seem to have cameo characters from wagan midnight.
