My laptop could seriously benefit from more RAM as it only has 512mb right now. It takes forever to start up and I'd like to help it run a little smoother. I looked and there's only 2 slots so I'll get either 2 x 512mb or 2 x 1gb depending on what it's gonna cost. From what I've seen on the RAM in the computer here is what I have:

256mb x 2 DDR 333 CL 2.5 PC 2700

From the searches I've been doing I assume I need soDimm? At least the pics of the sodimm seem to match what's in the laptop.

My questions are:

What should I be looking for?

Where is the best (cheapest decent quality) place to buy RAM?
I've looked at eBAy and Pricewatch.com but wanted to make sure I'm not overlooking another retailer that has better prices.

Thanks in advance!:)

http://www.crucial.com is a good place to start, you pay a little more, but you know its going to work.

Cheap RAM...... What problems can you run into if you ge the cheap no-name RAM off of Ebay? Can it damage your computer?

I've always wondered that....

Cheap no brand ram can cause strange things to happen. Random blue screens, lockups, instability. I always try to buy NEW ram from Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, Samsung, etc. Its worth the few extra dollars IMO.

Agreed.

That being said, for INEXPENSIVE memory... Check out Kingstons new 'ValueRAM" line. You're paying a premium for Crucial and Kingston's standard line, since they go through the trouble of supporting each piece on specific machines. For their value product, you order it merely on 'specs'.

Good luck!

I usually go to crucial.com to find out what kind the pc needs. Since you already know go to http://www.newegg.com I have never had a problem out of newegg.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/) is also a good place. They are sometimes cheaper than Newegg, and I haven't had any problems with them. At a quick glance, they seemed to be cheaper for 512MB SODIMMs, but Newegg is cheaper for the 1GB ones.

The ram won't damage your computer but you may when you throw it at the wall after it crashes destroying youre last 2 hours of work.

PC2=DDR2, which is incompatible with the older DDR stuff.

Yeah found that out by trying to put what I took out when I upgraded in my old laptop. No work. Oh well.

Anybody have any DDR ram they want to get rid of or trade?
