I have had a linksys router for about 3 years now and it works fine. when I purchased it, it was used in an area where signal boosting wasn't a problem. now that I'm in the townhouse, I have to worry about people stealing bandwidth (which I just can't have with Halo 3 coming out).
anyway, i lost all the paperwork and i don't have the IP addy to configure the router - how to i find that info out and here is the kicker - if it has a password, i most assuredly have forgotten it, is there anyway to reset the router?
thanks!
Ip address on a linksys router is 192.168.1.1
There is a small hole in the back of the router that you can stick a safety pin through and reset the router. It should clear out all personalized settings and take it back to defaults.
I believe the default password is "admin" once you get it reset.

that's the IP I've always used, but some routers have 192.168.2.1 (or ..1.2) - what determines the differences? Never really known why...
Oh, and leave the username blank when you enter the password. Change the password once you get in so you don't have anyone else changing your settings. I have about 6 wireless connections in my neighborhood I pick up - 5 are secured and one is not. Change your SSID from "Linksys" to something else you can identify. If others around you have unsecured networks and the default "Linksys" SSID, you could be picking up on their weaker signal and not realize it, slowing you down.

Thanks guys.
Yeah, there are multiple 'linksys' SSID's. Some are locked some are open which causes you to drop off every once in a while. I appreciate the help.

change ssid to warsurfer or the likes. and start up WPA if yours has it. If not...think about upgrading.
To do a reset usually involves, unplugging power from back, hold in reset button, and put power back in. After a few seconds front should start to flash, release the reset button, and it will boot up with defaults. One thing to remember, do the setup while you are connected with a wire. After you reset stuff like ssid and security then you can web in from anything else.
You could be a 1337 haX0r and load dd-wrt on it and be a cool kid....if you got bored.
and tip to find out its address... on the wired side, or wireless if you are 100% positive you are hooked into yours... Start a command window, Start -> Run -> type cmd hit Enter. Then in that window type ipconfig and hit enter. Your gateway is the router's IP address.
