Looking for a video card for my PC. I don't think I need too much. All I really do is surf the net, do word processing, and some OCCASIONAL CAD work, but that's very few and far between these days.

About the only thing I can think that I know I want is the digital output for my fancy new monitor. That and to keep it from using my system RAM. some onboard RAM would be nice. system uses PCI-E currently. (Compaq presario SR2039X)

Suggestions??? things I should look for?? Talking to Dark, he said to try to get EVGA brand stuff.

I gave BOB-E one of these (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&from=R10&_trksid=m37&satitle=6600gt+-agp&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=37127&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search) but it was an eVGA board. He was like, "woah, it's like sharper" and I was like, "nah, that's the drugs I put in your drink, your pupils are really dilated".

If you're not playing games it should work just fine.

This video cars stuff has been confusing me. Let me get this straight, there are numerous manufacturers that all produce a "6600gt" video card. Nvidia and geForce is just like a Logic that they use? not a brand.

Nvidia designs and manufactures the chipset and sells it to video card manufacturers. The video card manufacturers put it on boards of their design pairing the chipsets with memory, cooling, etc of their selection.

do you have a preference between ATI and Nvidia?

im an ATI man, so i went from a Radeon 9600 to a Radeon X1650 [its a beast] ... if youre just doing typical computer stuff and nothing graphics oriented, look for a Radeon card within your price range from www.newegg.com that has AT LEAST 256MB of memory on the card

I am using an ATI Radion and it works great under X windows with slackware 11 Linux.

Disney,

i have a ATI 2400 pro 128 card you can have if you find nothing, like you said more onboard ram would be a plus and since your not a hardcore gamer it would work for mutimedia apps just fine.
