What are normal oil pressures for a 4.6L 2v? Not the guesstimate from the dash gauge but actual psi numbers if you were to put a real gauge in? Looking for numbers from idle to around 4000 rpm.

Dash guage is just a switch, its either on or off, not high or low. If its low i would suspect a low voltage or resistance problem.

Which is why I'm wanting PSI numbers.

20-45 psi hot @ 1500 rpm

So at 4000 you should see what, around 80psi?

EDIT: Am trying to help out a neighbor who has a T-bird with an 03 GT motor in it. He's getting 0psi at idle and only gets up to around 45psi at 4000rpm.

I really dont know, thats the only spec that i am listing on alldata. do you have a wet guage on it?

What oil filter?

Not sure what type of gauge he put on it. He just came by and showed me the numbers.

Get a ford filter on the engine if there isnt one already, we fought problems with a new 5.4 3v and the only thing that fixed it was a motorcraft filter. 0psi at idle is no good, there are several things that it could be

Mine made 80 lbs. at idle when cold. 45 hot at idle.

The oil presure should not be much different between 1500 and 4000.

I am not sure how different the 4v motor would be to the 2v motor but I can check what my car is at since I got autometer oil pressure in it and then let you know.

DO you know where he installed the sensor at on the motor?

Also another thing would be to check the resistence if it is a electric guage. I had to et another guage from autometer because if you install it wrong you can short it out and it will read either 0psi or read as high as the needle will go if that happens.

Alrighty I was bored so I just checked. My car flutters around 25psi@ idle which is ~800rpm. I didn't go all the way up to 4000rpm but at ~2500-3000rpm I was seeing around 75psi. Also those are at operating temp. I had just gotten back home from cruisin around.

Cool. That's pretty much what I'm looking for. I would figure it would be similar for the 2v's.
