Okay, I've received several requests/suggestions to keep an on-going log of the transformation of my latest addition to the garage from a plain-jane Fox-body coupe to a "Bullitt" inspired version of the same car. For those who might not have caught the other threads, this is what I am starting with:

http://www.tennesspeed.net/gallery/data/500/medium/bullittbase1.JPG

And this is what I am hoping will be the final result:

http://www.tennesspeed.net/gallery/data/500/medium/FBRendering.jpg

I will be using this car as a daily driver, so the process will most likely take longer than if I was able to work on it in the garage sans mileage. That being said, I am going to try and do the car in stages:

Stage 1: Paint and Body
Stage 2: Interior
Stage 3: Suspension
Stage 4: Drivetrain
Stage 5: Final Details

Of course, as I find things to do along the way, I may complete things out of order.

Okay, the AOD is out and a manual 5-speed has taken its place.

I also replaced the worn center console with a NOS black console I scored off EBay.

I was also able to secure a couple of black, high-back buckets to replace the low backs that came in the car. (Best of all, they were free!)

Here's a shot of the interior with the manual tranny and new console in place. There is still a LOT of work to do in the cabin, but it's a starting place. I have a leather shift boot on the way and several other "detail" parts I am going to install. Still trying to put the final ideas on paper before I commit to anything. I will try to photoshop a mock up of the final design at some point.

Well, this weekend was pretty busy so I had very little time to get anything done to the coupe. I did, however, manage to replace the passenger side dash pad/ac vents in the car and get the correct shifter boot/bezel in place. When I bought the car, the pad in place was a gray one that had been painted black with an Autometer dual-gauge pod in place of the center a/c registers. I replaced with is with an NOS black pad. This made a tremendous difference as the other pad was showing it’s age and the paint was flaking off in areas.
This week, I plan to put the gauges back in, but this time I will be using a relocation panel that moves things around a little in the console. I think this will look much better and make it easier to manage the radio functions.

Okay, after helping a friend partially re-install a motor in his car earlier this morning, and tracing down a bad fuel pump relay in the '89 coupe, I finally got around to putting in the relocation panel I posted earlier. It was much more than a bolt in, as I had to lengthen some wiring and reroute some stuff in the dash but here it is installed in the car. Makes working the radio and ejecting/placing CD's in head unit much easier.

I am not real big on those panels because the a/c knobs don't sit flush with the panel surface. I would get one if that was fixed.:)

Great progress, keep us posted.

I think I have finally settled on a steering wheel/shift knob combo for the car. I wanted something that would mesh well with the black interior and brushed aluminum accents I have planned but harken back to the original "Bullitt" car as well. I think this fits the bill.

No offense man but what makes this any different from another fox bolt on build? The original Bullet was a Sports Roof car, why not start with a Hatch, since it more closely resembles the lines of the original car? I understand wanting a coupe, I wouldn't mind having another myself. Just looks like another bolt on car to me. I'm sure it will be a very nice well built car, just don't see what all the fuss is about.

If you had seen any of brodies other cars, you would understand how nice this one will end up.

Read the last sentence in my post.

"I'm sure it will be a very nice well built car"

I never said it wouldn't be nice. I just don't understand the attention. Don't understand what it was sticky post for a while? Lots of people have lots of projects going on, why does this one get picked to be site special?

I certainly don't consider my project any more special than anyone else's. I created this thread because several folks wanted to watch as it came together.

I hope the car is much more than a simple "bolt-on" car. I have several plans in the details of the car that you won't ever see in another Mustang (hopefully).

As for a coupe versus a hatch, it's just a personal preference.

This whole notion of "nutswingin" is gettin outta hand...its to the point where you cant compliment someones work without becoming a "nutswinger". Kinda takes all the fun outta not only doin the project but also admiring it...sheeeesh

Brodie...cant wait to see the coupe in progress, please keep up the updates. I only hope that one day my coupe will be as worthy lol

I agree. Brodie has the experience and change to make this a really sweet car. I personally would like to do this project as would many others on this board. I love following along with somones build especially when it will be done with the quality and attention to detail that Brodie has done in the past. Enough of the bickering whats next on the to-do list?:)

I for one am NOT a fan of most Mustangs, but I've always wanted a '66 Fastback, after seeing Bullitt when I was 10 years old. I wanted a 2001 (?) Bullitt in classic green after they came out, and honestly, if/when the 2008 (?) Bullitt comes out, I'd like to buy one if I'm bored with the Supra by then. There's something about a green fastback car with the classic "Bullitt" wheels (Thrusts), and a black interior that is just sex.

Good luck with the car, Brodie - I was honestly thinking the same thing that Coupe Devil was, but then after reading into it more, I'm sure that it'll be a very cool, very special car with the little details that make it stand out from the rest. Please do a cool throwback to the original model, with some custom-made pieces! :)

I don't see what's the big deal about the car either. It's just another Cookie Cutter Notch Stang. Who's owner is probably an A-hole like all Mustang owners.

Well, the Bullitt fired a blank this morning. On the way into work I stopped at the gas station and pumped some gas. Got back in and the car wouldn't start. Then I notice that the fuel pump is making its normal whine but at a different pitch and non-stop. (i.e. building no pressure).

Looks like the stock FP has given up the ghost. Of course, this would happen after I just filled the tank.

I'll be back in town on Sunday and could help you drop the tank if you need a hand. I don't think we have any other plans, but of course subject to change without notice, offers void where prohibited, employees and their families are excluded from this contest, no purchase necessary, etc.

I don't have a dog, but you can kick my neighbor's if you would like. I appreciate the offers of help but most likely I won't tackle the job for a couple of weeks because of other obligations/plans. I'll probably just bring it home tonight and let it sit in the driveway until I get to it.

Just a quick question...was this a girls car? There was a girl I knew named Krystle McNichol..her car looked just like that and it was an auto w/ the cobra R 4 lugs on it...she raced high school class and jr dragsters back in the day with me. She was 4 years older than me though..just curious

Timeline for this car was not impacted by the GT500. Quite honestly, I've been using the car so much as a daily driver that I have not found the time to do much with it. I have a bunch of stuff sitting in the garage ready to go into the car, just haven't gotten to it yet. Now that the holidays are coming to an end maybe I'll have more time to work on it. I'd like to have the car ready by spring.

Some of the stuff I have is:

347 "Sportsman" shortblock w/forged internals
Aluminum Driveshaft
Bilstein Rear Shocks
H&R Springs
Maximum Motorsports Panhard Bar
Maximum Motorsports Lower Control Arms (non adj)
G-load Brace
Strut Tower Brace
