Sometime last year my computer began getting infected with virii until it got the point where when I tried to turn it on it would turn itself right back off. I let it sit for a few months and finally decided the other day to boot it back up and see what I could do.

The easiest thing seemed to be to reinstall Windows, so I found the Windows XP CD, loaded it up and the computer runs great. My problems now, are that 1.) my computer doesn't detect my audio speakers and 2.) I cannot make the size of text and other on screen items smaller.

Is there something I need to install to fix this? My screen resolution is at a minimum and it won't allow me to change. The computer is a Dell, not sure what model but I've had it since the summer of 2004 so it's not too new. I was told to install my drivers, but when I found the disk I couldn't figure out what needed to be installed and how to do it so I gave up!

Any help appreciated.

your dell will have a service tag on it. like 8 digit alpha/numeric code. go to support.dell.com and you can look for download drivers there. you can put in your service tag in and it will give you just the drivers you need. you need your video driver. you need audio driver. there are likely other drivers as well. they will be exe files from dell.com all you have to do is double click them and walk though the steps.

you can right click on "my computer" and do properties, then the hardware tab, then device manager. anything with an exclamation point or question mark is what you need drivers for

Thank you very much man, I went to the Dell website and downloaded both the main audio and main video drivers, clicked restart and everything works great now. Again, thanks alot for your help brother :)
