Ok, now I am in the market for a camera. I'm pretty much going to get either a Nikon or a Cannon. I'm looking for a camera with ease of use with great picture quality. I would also like a camera that doesn't use standard AA batteries that tend to die FAST. A rechargeable setup would be nice, or has most of that gone the way of the Dinosaur.
I'd like to have at LEAST a 7.1MP camera. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money, but I'm also not gonna buy a $100 camera.
Mostly the camera will be used for a lot of general photography, still shots (cars, landscapes, & such), some action shots (races, partying, & banging Disneys mom).

Have you looked at the Panasonic dmc-fz8? I picked up one a couple of weeks ago and like it pretty well. It received good reviews on dpreview.com.
I have a Canon powershot a620 that I'm looking to sell.
7.1 MP, max resolution of 3072x2304. It uses AA batteries but with the rechargeable batteries I can take pictures all day long and not use them up. When I was in Canada i took 1600+ pics on 1 set of batteries.
Comes with a 2gb SD card, 32mb SD card, and manuals.
200 shipped to you.

Well right now I'm looking to buy a new one, due to debt consolidation and only having 1 payment a month... so I'm buying a new toy. It'll be going on my Dell card, as I don't want to shell out all the cash all at once. This way, I can string it along 2-3 payments over the next 2/3 months and never notice that I even spent the money.
Right now, I'm looking at these 2...
PowerShot S5 IS 8 MP 12X Zoom Digital Camera @ $339.99
&
EOS Digital Rebel XT Silver 8.0 MP Digital SLR Camera (with 18-55 mm Lens) @ $510.00
I'm just really not sure which would be better for me as a novice. Plus my g/f is a photo-nut and would get tons of use out of it as well if I go with the SLR..

Get the EOS Digital Rebel XT if you can swing it. It's better than those little compact P&S cameras. You can learn a to use a DSLR easy.
FWIW, with the DSLR, you can buy lenses to shoot in just about any situation. That is if you can swing it. You'll be spending around $200-up for lenses. A good thing to do is look for the used lenses from a trusted seller.

If you're just wanting a Point n' Shoot and don't want to spend the cash on a DSLR, then definitely look at the Canon A-Series cameras. I bought an A620 for my wife before a trip she took to Chicago earlier this year and she still really seems to like it. The few times I have played with the camera, I was very impressed with the results.
x2. Buy Mike's camera

Point and Shoot - Canon all day long. Get the best one you can afford. They'll be more compact than a dSLR at the expense of picture quality.
dSLR - The Canon 350D (Digital Rebel XT) is a great camera and its hard to go wrong with it. I think Canon makes better pro gear but I feel Nikon's entry level stuff is easy to work with, feels a lot more solid, and has great picture quality. A D50, D70s, used D80, or even the new D40 or D40x are all good choices. Really you cant go wrong either way with any of these. Just make sure what you're buying includes a lens/kit lens as you have to buy lenses seperate for dSLRs and you can buy just the body.

i already have a canon dslr, and i needed a smaller cam
so i decided on the canon sd870 is
its a little higher in price but a friend has it and i love it, plus im partial to cannon
if the sd870 is to pricey, i know office depot was selling the sd 850 is (pretty much same cam, just older) for 250, which is a sick deal
not sure if anymore are available though

S5 IS is a SOLID camera if you want, point and shoot PLUS the ability to actually zoom (optically) into your subject. If I didn't go SLR, this would have been my camera. :)

i agree, i just needed something smaller then my 30d and the s5 is not exactly the smallest camera
i really wanted the 870 becuase of the wide angle :-)
but yeah 250 for the 850 is a steal, it wasnt available where i live though (37027) :-(

I accept credit cards... :)
Seriously. If you want to use your card so you can spread it out, I can do that.

Mmm.. Wide angle... Never thought about that, but that would be a great feature to have. What all cameras carry that feature?
