View Full Version : Anybody ever had you car photographed by a magazine?

I'm asking this in here because the Pit Row members seem to have the most common sense. I was wondering if anybody here has had a car in a magazine or has known anybody that has.
Some of us on Turbo-Mopar.com were sent a message about somebody wanting to shoot some of our cars for a Mopar oriented magazine. I sent a few pictures and a few facts about my car to them. They contacted me telling me they would be in TN to shoot various cars in Feb. This person has a website with nice professional photographs.
I just want to make sure this ain't a con job. If this photoshoot happens, I'm taking a friend (Brodie) with me. The car ain't coming out of the trailer if I detect something fishy. Am I worrying too much?

I'd say your worrying too much. Unless they are asking you to pay money, what do you have to lose? Your car is so clean, it deserves to be in a magazine. Good luck.

Only for Sportscar (SCCA's rag). It is in this month's issue and just 2 pics though that were taken on course.

Yes. You should be enjoying the thought, not worrying if it's some kinda scam.

Thanks. I would never pay them any money. I might send them money for some nice prints IF the car shows up in the magazine. Of course, I ain't holding my breath.

I guess I am worrying too much. It is flattering that they would be interested in featuring my car in a magazine. It's just, you just don't know about people nowadays, especially people on the internet.
Now, I have to clean the car up. I have a list of about 15 little things that I need to fix. I'm going to have to touch up the engine bay and hope the camera doesn't find all the flaws. I wish I had a place to respray my engine bay. We should have blasted the all of the paint off and started over. I'll never scuff and shoot underhood again. I think 20 years of oil and grime soaked into the existing paint causing the new paint not to stick well in places. We scuffed and shot the jambs with no problems of paint flaking off.

If you go back & look at my pics that Josh & Hibbs took of my car it looks flawless. It's far from it. The pics do a good job of hiding all the little rock chips, blemishes, etc. I wouldn't worry about that too much. Any little things that do show up could be chopped out I'm sure, especially if they're going in a mag.
Good luck with it & keep us updated.

Only start worrying if this guy shows up at the arranged meeting place and says "Have a seat over there."

PS: The email you replied to didn't ask you if you wanted to meet up with the "bros" and "chill" did it? :panic:

Just do your research. If it's a Mopar oriented magazine, I'm sure you will have heard of it.
If not, find out who the publisher is and determine if it's legit or not.
I don't blame you - all the time you hear about wacky situations and who would think their car is going to get stolen after agreeing to have pictures taken of it?

Yeah seriously. Its not like they are asking to get road or track time in it. Just take some pics. I would be freakin honored to get my junk in a magazine.. Maybe one of these days.

It is Mopar Enthusiast magazine. It's been out for two issues. Greg Rager is the editor. He started out as editor of Mopar Muscle magazine. The photographer is a freelancer from what I understand.
A couple months back, when I first heard of Mopar Enthusiast, I e-mailed Greg asking if they were going to be the typical 1962-1972 Mopar magazine ignoring the 2.2 turbo Mopars. He assured me that they would not. He seemed interested in featuring my car then.
I don't know whether to e-mail Greg again and ask him if this is on the up and up or not. I sure don't want to piss him off.

It could be that this freelancer is trying to make a name for himself and is going to submit the work to the magazine afterward. He may not have been "commissioned" to do the work in advance, so the magazine editor might not know about it.
This happens a lot from what I've heard.

Unless you cuss him for no reason throughout the email, I can't see why that would tick him off...and it sure couldn't hurt to ease your mind. At least you'd know if the magazine is aware. And if it is just a freelancer planning to submit pics, the publisher could confirm a relationship with him.

I met Greg Rager the former editor of Musclecar Review back in 87-88. He spotted my 69 CJ Cougar at a show and wanted to shoot it. Anyway a few months go by and he shows up at my door. Unfortunately I had sorta wrecked it the previous weekend.
Take a chance. Everyone wants to see there car in a mag. Just don't be one of those douche bags who thinks it doubles the value of their car because it was in HotRod back in 97.

This guy just called a half hour ago. He said he is coming down to shoot my car and a Mustang February 15th. He said he is going to call me later this week with more details.
He asked me if I knew of any good places to shoot. He is looking for a place with no trees. He said he shot at the Titans stadium last time he was in Nashville, but doesn't like to use the same place more than once.

I've known Greg Rager for years, who is the photographer, possibly Geoff Stunkard? he's a Mopar ( and other brands ) free lancer from here in East TN.

He don't ring a bell, I've had a BUNCH of cars photo'ed over the years, both personal and customers. One in Mopar Muscle back when Rager was at the helm. A customers car was just in the Dec. issue of Mopar Collectors Guide.

The Mustang that he is going to shoot the same day is mine. He called me yesterday and left a message. I just spoke with him a little while ago and he mentioned your car. He said that it will probably take all day and maybe some on Saturday. Congrats on getting your car in a magazine! You've poured a lot of time and money into that thing and it deserves it!

I have a list of about 7 things I gotta do between now and the 15th. I have procrastinated and the car is dirty. I'm going to swap my GLHS wheels on. They are dirty too and need to be polished.

Wow...Thanks for being so positive ReefBlueCoupe. I thought it was very cool back in the day. They had a professional photographer met me at a park and took some great pics of my truck. It wasn’t as cool as the GMHTP shoot but it was still fun.

Well I was just saying that because my dad had his truck on the cover, too.. 93 GMC v6 full size with horrible Eagle wheels and one of those aqua/blue/purple sticker packages on it at the time.. all he did was pay the money and it was on the cover for sale. I didn't think it was anything special.

I dont remember if it cost me anything extra to have it on the cover or not. I just remember how good the pics turned out. This was about 12 years ago.
Be easy on your Dad...Eagle wheels and aqua/blue/purple sticker packages were pimp in 1993.

Whats wrong with that? The Syclone and Typhoon have 4.3 V6's. My Syclone even has 3" exhaust and no muffler.:lol:
Im starting to sound like a redneck. I guess the words "intercooled turbo" make up for it.

Kevin, have him shoot it with the Bogarts man! The Centurions are great, but the Bogarts really set it off.
Glad to hear this is legit and hope the shoot goes well. You should have him come shoot up here in White House, lots of open space :D

I was going to put them on the car for the shoot, but he requested I leave the Bogarts at home.
