I have a 2002 Mustang GT w/ approx 75,000 miles.

Last June I put on a a set of 03 Chrome Cobra Wheels.

17x10.5" on the rears with a 315/35/17 BFG T/A KD's
17x9" on the fronts with 275/40/17 BFG T/A KD's

shortly after that I put a set of Eibach Sportline Lowering Springs

anyhow, I've noticed that on both my rear tires the outer lip has been getting ripped off...i presume because it's hitting the fender well, and ripping chunks off the tire.

i didn't change the shocks and struts when I did the springs, so I'm wondering if maybe the stock rear shocks are causing the problem?

the fronts are fine and they don't do this.

anyone have any ideas? i put a pic up and if you look really closely you can see the jagged gouges. these are all the way around both rear tires.

Looks like rubbing the fender. Get some stiffer shocks or better springs.

what kind of shocks should I get?

shocks wont do it. you need:

to live with the light rub
get stiffer springs
get springs with a higher ride hight
get more negative camber
get smaller tires
get a different offset wheel
beat your fender lips in with a hammer

It;s your choice

Not a mustang guy so not sure what is best for them.

How much did the springs lower the car? A soft spring will allow the tires to rub on the fenders with a large drop. Also how old are the struts on the car?

Fender roller FTW!

Roll the fenders. Baseball bat + heat gun.

Those Eibachs are a little low and a little soft.

No camber adjustment on rear of solid axle Mustang.

Shocks won't fix the problem at all.

Readily available springs that are stiffer probably won't prevent the rubbing under certain circumstances. Springs stiff enough to limit you to a couple of inches of travel will kill you on ride quality and make it more ill handling than Mustangs typically are.

I bet you don't want to go to a smaller tire but that would do it. Maybe a 295ish.

Best solution would be to roll the fender lip. Baseball bat works great.

Or go out and hit some corner with aplomb and wear off the outside egdes so they don't rub.

Fender rolll. Even if you keep those shocks or springs, other sets will do it with that wide of a tire, too. Doesn't look like you need to go that much on it.

alright...I will do that this weekend.

wondering if some adjustable height control arms might help? raise the back end up a little bit...from the looks of the depths of the gouges in the tire, looks it wouldn't need that much raise in heighth to keep it from doing that?

I think Carter Thompson has a fender roller and has rolled many people's fenders for cheap if you want it done more safely then a baseball bat. His screen name is cturbo28 on here I think.

Try spring rubbers... Like the ones they use in Nascar, it will not allow the springs to bottom out.
