I dropped into the sister's place this afternoon and snapped a few shots of my niece Maya just a few days shy of 9 months old. She's teething right now so she's pretty fussy most all the time so it was challenging just to get an even demeanor much less a smile out of her. She's also crawling now, and pulling herself up trying to walk as well, so she's tough to shoot as she's always on the move. Eventually she got tuckered out but she went from high energy to out like a light in a matter of seconds. They're not my best and I definitely see flaws and things I could have done better in nearly every shot, but a teething 9 month old thats on the move is only so cooperative, and I tried to do my best with her while I was working with my new 50/1.8 lens as well (shooting all at f/1.8 just to test it).

Thanks for any C&C guys. I'd greatly appreciate input on things I did good and especially on things I did bad.

Thanks guys. The definitely came out soft, so instead of trying to compensate and sharpen them up I decided to keep with the soft theme in the processing. Being that the subject was this little cremepuff butterball I felt like they lent themselves well to the softer look and came out OK, but I still think I'd prefer them a little sharper and more detailed (next time I'll stop the lens down a bit instead of shooting exclusively at f/1.8 and I'll also alter the way I sharpen the next shots I take instead of the softer method I used here). Thanks for the input everyone. :)

They're great shots!

CC for #3

I think in #3 I would try more flash to get a bit more light in her eyes. Other than that, great work!

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)

John, thanks for the tip. I didn't even think of that. I'll definitely try it next time. In the meantime I might try to dodge the highlights and midtones in the eyes to help out a little.
