Which of these three would I get more use out of if I were to pick up a used lense? I shoot some portraits and cars mostly.. maybe a landscape every now and then.

Used price ideas? Dude wants me to make offers and I hav no idea. I have the kit lense that came with the 40D and that is it. I'd like to get another lense or two if the price is right.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II (Known as the nifty fifty, this lens is the largest aperture NON-L series lens available) http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...modeli d=7306

Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM (A very crisp wide angle, with a little bit of edge distortion, but still puts out VERY good photos)
http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...sp?navigator=6

Tamron AF 55-200mm F/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro (Another very crisp lens. This is a telephoto zoom lens.)

Thanks

The nifty is cool and cheap. A definate must have for the bag. I have a 10-22 and I find I never use it. It's soon to be for sale. So out of those I'd only get the 50. Then get a good walkaround lens like a Tamron 17-50 2.8 a Canon 17-40L or a Canon 17-55 2.8IS if you have the bux. For portraits and tons of other stuff, my favorite lens it the Canon 70-200 F4L. I got mine for $500 used. Best valued lens ever!

cant see the pic at work, but I'm sure its good. Yeah the 1.4 is supposed to be really nice. My 1.8 is so good though, I want to get another focal length prime instead of upgrading to the 1.4. Like a Sigma 30 1.4 or a 85 1.8.

On the macro, I dunno about the Sigma 70, but if you can afford the Canon 100 macro, fo sho get that. It's absolutely the sharpest lens I own. I use it as much as possible for non-macro more than macro.

Thanks bob-e i will check out the 100 Canon... Although here is a good review that the sigma recived. They call it a twin to the 100mm Canon. I am buying hte Sigma used and not sure I could find the 100 for the same price.

Werd, can't argue with used, but I'd be surprised if you can find anything sharper than the Canon 100 2.8 for less than $1000.00. It's really that good. I bought mine used on photographyonthe net forums

I may try the 70mm until I can find a used 100mm down the road. Not sure how much Macro I will shoot but will be fun to give it atry.

photographyonthe net forums I have been spending some time there myself these days

If you're into Macro, the 90mm Tamron macro is an awesome lens on a budget! I think you may have posted another thread and actually bought the Sigma though, either way, theyr'e both nice.

As far as a good lens to use, it depends on what you shoot. That 50mm 1.8 is a good lens for the money, and sharp, but the build quality is meh and I'm not a fan of the focal length.

The 10-20 is awesome. One of my favorite lenses I have -ever- used. It just has a bit of distortion, but bang for the buck it can't be beat!

If you're looking for a solid carry around for the 40D, I use a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 on mine. I'd use the 17-50 if I didn't have a 10-20 (well, sold the 10-20 and buying a 10-22 soon). If you don't plan on buying a superwide, I'd definitely look into the 17-50 instead. Both can be had for $400 or so, but I promise you they are as sharp as $1000+ glass.

For portraits (you mentioned them) the 85mm is an awesome budget portrait lens! Has the nicest bokeh of any lens I've ever used thats under $1000, I actually prefer the bokeh on the 85mm over the 70-200L.

I picked up a 50mm 1.4 USM along witht eh 70mm macro last week. THe 50 mm 1.8 may go up for sale or I may just hang on to it for knocking around.

I hope to get the 10-22 Canon lens next or the Canon 100-400. I think I will use a zoom more than a wide-angle but will some point end up with both.

Some of you guys mentioned getting the 10-22. I have one for sale, because I'm trying to get a 100-400. $600 with a genuine Canon Hood. No box. It's an awesome lens, I just want something longer. Lots of wildlife in Lebnun :)
