My neighbor is installing a cd player in his dads GT. Well I've not messed at all with any of the GT's with and without the 460 system.

Here is what I know so far. He has the harness that connects the power hooked up correctly. He also has the adapter harness for the amp hooked up as well. The headunit powers up but no sound comes out. We know the CD player is good and the internal amp in the cd player is not dead.

What are we doing wrong, and how do we correct it? I don't want to do to his dads GT as I did to my Fox to install a stereo (just ripped out the amp and jumped the amp cables to my speaker lines).

If we have to take out the amp thats not a big deal. Both of us just dont want to cut off the plugs to install the stereo.

I think you have to connect a wire to turn on the factory amp. Least that's what I remember, but it's been oh... 10 yearrs since i've done it on a SN.

You need to trigger the factory amp to turn on via the head units remote turn on lead (blue wire).

Does it have the Mach 460? If not, you have to bypass the factory amp. It's easy, it's in the dash behind the radio, just unplug it. Use a standard Ford NON-amp harness, as the plug going out to the speakers from the amp is the same as the radio to speaker plug on the non-amped cars. If it's a Mach 460, it's a little more involved, but not too hard.
