GM had a test drive event at Lowe's in the Boro today. They had a few cars available to drive, a Buick Enclave, GMC Sierra, Yukon Hybrid, G6, Vibe and of course the G8 GT. I test drove the Vibe 1st, not a bad car. Definitely a good DD.

But I really came for the G8. It was sharp in person. I still dislike Pontiac front end's but the G8 pulls it off nicely. 1st thing I told the guy riding with me was that I was going to stomp on it, and he actually turned off the traction control for me  Very nice smooth engine, lots of torque. (LS# 6.0 361 hp, 385 torque). Deceptively fast. Interior was top notch. Ride was very solid and smooth. Steering wheel in particular felt great. It's a heavy car, but it carried it well. I only got a 10 minute drive so I can't really comment on the handling of the car.

For 30 grand, there's nothing that comes close to it. GM did this one right.

I was really impressed with the interior feel of the G8 GT they have sitting in Franklin. Definitely not related to any American Pontiac car. :D

I'm not one to be picky about interior but I have always hated GM interiors (I especially hate the mundane Delco radios) so I'll definitely have to take a look in the G8. I'll be surprised if I'm impressed. heh

Its not a LS motor, its a L76. I really want to drive one. Im wondering if I'll get my chance.

lol....actually it is in the LS series of motors, just the name is different. It's still a Gen 3/4 motor. ;)

The 04-06 GTOs and the new G8s are both built by Holden. There are actually a lot of interior similarities and the build quality is basically the same as well. Exterior styling and drivetrain differences are really the only real differences. G8 has 4 doors, GTO only 2, G8 is more sculpted while the GTO is more bubbly, GTO is more powerful, not sure on weight, G8 has a 6-speed auto I believe, etc. Very similar cars actually.
