i took my coupe down the rd for the first time since kinda finishing it.my trans is acting up.

c-4 trans, stock valvebody,3500 tci stahl.trans was rebuilt by coleman taylor.it is pretty new.

prob is: when taking off, not real hard, and when i shift to 2nd gear, the back tires lock up.runnin about 20 mph,in 1st,and nailing the trottle,it does not lock the tires up.it goes great.

i called c/taylor and they said it was prob the valve body.

ok,long story short.we had this trans in my brothers coupe, and it done the same,BUT,we replaced the trans, and it still done it,come to find out,it was the rearend locking up.so i put the trans in my car,now i'm wonderin if its the trans or rearend.this rearend is welded,i think...it is a 7.5 ,, 3.73 ,i dought it has a mini spool.

welded spider gears??? sounds like a piece of weld slop is getting in the Mesh.

yea,but if that was the case, when the back tires start locking up,and i throw it into nuetral, the car rolls great.then i put the car in drive,or 2nd,and it does fine.it only does it when i shift from 1st to 2nd ,

kinda like this.dead stop,1st,2nd,locking up,nuetral,back to 2nd,then drive.

gotta be the trans.but my luck the rear end.i could care less which one it is.i just want to fix it now.

ok that sounds like a misadjusted band.

I agree. I tried to adjust the bands in my c-4 to get the 2nd to 3rd gear flash "rev" out and instead it locked up on 1st to 2nd shift (luckly was on lift), readjusted back, didnt lock up..

2nd to 3rd flash is caused by excessive clearance in the high gear clutch pack. Excessive clearance makes it take longer for the servo to put pressure on the clutches since it has to travel further to get engagement. It is most noticeable with an after market manual valve body. The stock valve body holds second for an instant while the high gear clutch pack engages. This is called overlap. The aftermarket valve body in order to get quicker shifts eliminates this overlap hence the feeling of going into neutral as it goes into 3rd gear. Disassemble the transmission and shim the clutch pack to the low side of factory spec and you're problem should go away.

Sounds like It's the VB in that particular case.

so changing the valebody is prob a good start.and if that don't work, then i'll just get another trans.and then watch it do the same as my brothers car.and it have been the rearend the whole time...my luck...

i just don't wanna tye the frame and put the exhaust on till i get this fixed.
