served me well until i got the 60s put in and a tweecer tuning..
best it cut was 1.63

i went to the track friday to try out the tuning. it wouldnt 60 ft best i got was 1.75 60 ft. best time was 7.45

i looked at the gauge and was only getting 10psi so i will take a 7.45 at 10 psi the next day when i got off work i checked my clamps.. when hooking the blower back up one wasnt tight...http://www.nloc.net/vbforum/images/smilies/headscratch.gif so i tightened it and went over the others. went for test ride and it made instant 14psi and held 10 psi thru 2nd gear
at track it had only 10 max psi

so i was still on slicks i wanted to see how it acts on the race tune. did a lil burn out, then eased up alittle rolled into first slowly then nailed it. it felt great harder than it has ever felt which with 33 total timin coming out it should so 30 feet into take off i saw parts flying out the back i was hoping it was blower belt or other belt. it was my eaton rear end shattering. came out in chunkshttp://www.nloc.net/vbforum/images/smilies/crying3.gif had 28000 miles on it and the gears. i didnt plan on going as far as i have, or i wouldnt have put a eaton

For those with small displacement engines, this is this TORQUE we hear ashleyp talking about all the time.

Been there. An Eaton is the best, however, they will fail with either a heavy car, lot's of hook/TQ or both. A good spool (Moser, Strange etc.) is the only way to go after that.

It'll buff out.

to put a spool i would have to put c clip eliminators,,, to my knowledge no one makes them for the truck 8.8 and i do drive the truck quite a bit spool would be the cheapest way out if i can get c clip eliminators
how well would a detroit hold up?

time for a 9" mod? sounds like you may have found why you haven't seen the 6's yet(boost leak)..almost had them too!!

how about a dana out of a later lightning?

how about a dana out of a later lightning?
good idea as well, but what about the bolt patern? I know the 4dr 4x4 trucks had the 5 lug dana 60, but it is a wierd bolt patern to try to match up an existing wheel setup to.

I'd put axles in it anyways so they can put any lug pattern on it you want.

What is Twiceblown351 doing on his rearend?

I'd grab a late 70's early 80's 1/2 ton 4x4 9". Big bearing rear and bolt in. 31 spline, but you'll have more luck getting the hard parts to hold that torque and weight without moving to a 3/4 ton rear.

What is the wheel bolt pattern on an older lightning?

Whatever you do, get away from a clutch type pos if at all possible. They really don't do well with big torque in a heavy vehicle. Just by the nature of how they have to be built, the cases are thin. Go with a spool or a detroit locker (not a true-trac).

To go the spool route you would need aftermarket axles. By the time all is said and done, you may consider just building a new rear like a 9".

Gen 1 Lightning bolt pattern is 5x 5. (Standard pre 97 F-150) There are a few companies that make the late model lightning wheels to fit the 5x5.5 bolt pattern. You could pick up a Dana out of a later Lightning, run the stock wheels on the back and get two aftermarkets for the front to match that are 5x5.5

I would look for a 9 inch though. A 9 inch with a 31 spline Detroit Locker, good axles will get you where you want to be.

KApow! Good job Billy. What length is your rearend? I think I may know where a 9 inch is.

Man I hate to see that. I am curious to see which way you go with it. I am sure I will be needing something different once my stroker goes in..
