First and foremost, this post is not aimed at anyone here in particular. It is more of a pre-emptive measure to show what sort of things constitute a "bad" signature on practically any online forum like ours. In fact, I am going to borrow a few signatures seen on other forums just so that no one here feels like they have been singled out. ;)

Signature Lengths

Signatures should be kept as short as possible. There simply is no need to list every modification done to your vehicle(s) in your signature. This is an automotive performance site. Odds are good that everyone who reads your posts has come to accept that you've probably done a few things to your car, so there is really no need to constantly "remind us" of it in each and every post you make.

Here is an example of a needlessly long signature from another message board:

2000 Blue GT

- BBK Longtubes
- Custom Off-road X
- Bassani Exhaust
- Pro-M MAS
- Custom CAI
- 4.10s
- Diablo Dual-Chip/ Speed Calibration
- Aluminum DS
- SPEC II Clutch
- SPEC Aluminum Flywheel
- Steeda Pullies
- Steeda Timer Adjuster
- Steeda Firewall adjuster & quadrant
- Steeda Tri-ax SS
- Steeda SFC
- Steeda LCA
- Steeda UCA
- Steeda Lowering springs
- Steeda Strut tower brace
- Removed anti-sway bar
- Lakewood Shocks
- Relocated Battery
- Backseat delete
- No spare
the list goes on...

As you can see, that list alone is longer in terms of number of lines than the body of some posts that you will see on this site. A much better thing to do would simply take that grocery list of parts and put them on a web page somewhere and just give the link to the page in your signature.

Doing so would take that mess above and turn it into something like this instead...

2000 Blue GT

See how much better that is? Anyone who cares will click it and be shown your modifications. The rest of us won't have to endure a 20-line list of parts each time we read your posts. ;)

Pictures and Smilies In Signatures

Be considerate of others when you include a picture or a few smilies in your signature. Don't post pictures in your signature that could be considered inappropriate or offensive to some viewers.

Don't post pictures in your signature that are larger than 100 pixels high and 400 pixels wide, either. The picture in my signature as of this writing is 100 pixels high and 234 pixels wide. Plenty big enough for people to see that it is a Ford Mustang, but not so big that they can count the bug splats on the front bumper. ;)

Also, limit your use of smilies in your signature file. One or two is sufficient. If you have to use more than one or two, chances are it is overkill and looks goofy to the rest of us.

Advertising In Your Signature

Only authorized vendors are allowed to post advertising information in their signatures. Our authorized vendors pay for the privilege of being able to advertise on Tennesspeed and by doing so help fund the ongoing operation and growth of our community. It is only fair that we give them exclusive rights to advertise and ask all others to refrain from doing so.

If you would like to become an authorized vendor, see this FAQ entry for more information (http://www.tennesspeed.net/forums/faq.php?faq=generalinfo#faq_general_advertising).

Thanks for helping us keep Tennesspeed.net clean and clutter free! :D
