    Turbo IS300 or SC300???

I am looking into doing a NA-turbo 2jz-ge and would like your input on which way to go. I would prefer the IS300 for several reasons but I don't know if the obd-II and the VVT-I will be a problem for my 450-550whp goal. IMHO the IS300 is a much sexier car and I like the idea of a fast 4 door M5 and CTS-V eater and the IS is acctually 200lbs lighter than the SC300 coupe. I can get a 5spd SC300 for $5000-$7500 in decent shape but I don't really like the body style. The IS300 in a 02-03 are going for $9000-$13000 with good miles and the 5spd tranny. Any input from the supra guru's would be great.

I know they are 10-1 compression and the stock bottom ends are said to be good for my power levels. I am thinking go with a very thick like 3mm HG, arp head studs, and some 272' cams along with a BW S362 turbo or a Holset HX40pro(both good for 500whp on pump gas. What tuning options are available besides full stand alone?

Before you flame me for looking at the Lexus over the nissan/infiniti here is my reason.
I would do a turbo G35 sedan with a 6spd if I wouldn't have over $10K in forging and boosting the VQ. I love my G35 but it's my wifes grocery getter.

If your going to get an IS get the automatic. For starters, it's been proven that it will handle more power with a valve body upgrade and transmission cooler...around 430ish wheel. If you want more upgrade to the Supra 6 speed. Next, I would look into the SRT 2.75 kit from Swift Racing. It will get you in the range of 430ish wheel with just a 3" turbo back exhaust (dynojet). I saw an IS with the kit run a 11.7 on race gas and drag radials at Zmax. Besides that...good luck.

Wikipedia has the IS300 at 3300lbs and the Sc300 at 3500lbs I think. I just started looking into this build. I am still wondering if there are any negatives to going with the OBDII IS300 with VVT-I over the older SC300 as far as cams, tuning, etc. I really like the IS300 but I won't be happy with anything less than a 500whp pump gas setup even if I have to build the bottom end with a full weight Lexus. A link to tuning options besides stand alone and some vvt-I cams would be great. I will figure this out on my own when I have some seat time at the computer over the weekend, but any help from some knowledgeable members would be great.

As for the auto, sorry but I don't like autos, those are for the wife!

is300 5 mt is super rare and really weak. Is300 too nice of a car to make into some kind of beast... you could make a super nice daily by doing suspension, wheels, and a couple odds and ends.

at least with the sc300 you have a lower initial investment. Less money up front means more for mods later. swap in the poopra 6speed, I'm sure It would be funner than anything I've ever driven.

Is this a fact. I've found several in my price range with the 5spd. I guess I need to research the supra TT tranny swap. You would think the NA supra, Sc300, and the 5spd IS300 would all have the same tranny. I know the MKIII supra tranny's are good for around 500whp but they are a different model # then the NA MKIV's and SC300's.

Oh, you can easily get over 500whp...but your going to need to swap in the Supra 6 speed. You will also need swap in GTE internals to build it up a bit. Also, the IS300 is quite a bit lighter than the SC. But, one trade off is you cannot fit monster tires on the back...while the SC has pretty wide wheel wells. If you are going to get serious about this build visit my.is and the Go Faster section. They have some more knowledge members there that have actually built one from the ground up.
