Nismo Festival 2009: FIA GT GT1 Specification Nissan GT-R Up Close and Personal

December 4th, 2009 Goto comments Leave a comment

Nismo Festival is here again and although it officially doesn’t start until tomorrow, we’ve been able to, with thanks to help from Nismo get some unprecidented access to get under the skin of the 2010 GT1 specification Nissan GT-R.
A total of three GT1 spec GT-Rs are at Fuji Speedway less than 100 meters from me as I type this from the media center. I was up at 5:30am this morning to get this chance to get some interesting shots of the car without any members of the general public around. So I hope you enjoy these.
There’s 62 photos in total I’ve selected for this article so go ahead and click the read more link below to browse. I’m sure you can keep yourself busy for quite a while picking up on the finer details.
I’ll be making a post shortly on interesting points I noticed myself…

In the 2nd picture, I wondered why the brakes looked funny until I made the picture larger.

    Thanks for fixing the title.

I thought the same thing about the brakes Eric. They still look like carbon brakes though on the tiny part of the rotor that you can see.

    agreed!

What's funny is how big the GTR is compared to the other cars in the series.

    Looks great.

Its pretty close to the db9 in size isnt it? Or it is in stock fashion atleast.

    db9

    2010 Nissan GT-R - Specifications, Pictures, Prices

The GTR has a longer wheel base but it shorter overall. Its also an inch wider and 2 inches taller.

I think it's the height of it that makes it look funny.

I drove one last week at Rd Atl and it felt like driving my wife's Trailblazer.
If my wife's trailblazer had over 500hp and amazing brakes.

They are Carbon-carbon brakes. We did testing on them on our brake dyno at SIU. Cliff notes is: Regular 14" steel rotors could do about 100 braking cycles (wheel and tire attached of course) before they would fail dramatically, the carbon-carbon went about 1300 cycles before we wore out the pads. Rotors were still fine and we all had about 5# of brake dust all over us. Picture the Little Rascalls....

interesting info tidbit of the day:
i was reading the technical manual on porsche pccb brakes, and the wear thickness to replace the rotors is thicker than the new thickness??/
